2019 marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As a valued NAA chapter and group leader, there are many ways you can participate in the festivities, help other Huskers in your area celebrate the university and make an impact!
On Feb. 14 and 15 we are inviting alumni worldwide to Glow Big Red and light their porches red, fly their Husker flags, wear their favorite Husker gear and make a gift to the NAA for the inaugural giving day. As part of these 24 hours of Husker giving, we have a special challenge for members of our alumni chapters and groups. Make a giving day gift of any amount to the Nebraska Alumni Association’s N-Fund and enter your chapter or group's name on the payment page at the end of the transaction. The chapter or group with the highest number of donors will receive $500 to put toward a NU Foundation scholarship fund of their choice and an additional $250 of programming money to be used at their discretion. To show the university’s global reach, we have produced four special flags to send around the world in 2019! We’re seeking individuals and groups who would be interested in receiving a flag, signing it with names and locations, snapping a photo in an interesting or iconic spot and then sending it on to another Husker. If you are interested in participating, please contact Kevin Wright, who will be mapping the routes, at kwright@huskeralum.org.
UNL students, alumni, faculty and friends are encouraged to come together and make an impact by participating in the Husker Civic Challenge and completing 1.5 million service hours in 2019. Whether your chapter or group participates in a local service project collectively or your members are active volunteers on their own, these service hours can be logged toward the civic challenge goal and earn your chapter credit. Stay tuned for more information and specific instructions.
The university is producing a video that will highlight UNL’s history and look forward to its future. This feature, which will be approximately 20 minutes long, will be available in early February. Chapters and groups will have access to the video and are welcome to share it at events throughout the year. More information will be available soon.
The Nebraska Lectures: Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture Series has expanded in 2019 to explore the rich history of Nebraska’s land-grant institution. The series was made possible by a $15,000 National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman’s Statehood Grants Initiative. All talks will be streamed online and available via podcast.
