The Young Alumni Academy offers an in-person or online experience dedicated to enhancing the connection and engagement of young alumni with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Academy offers exclusive opportunities for professional development, network-building with other successful alumni, personal meetings with university leaders, and behind-the-scenes access to new campus facilities and initiatives. While the recommended age range for participants is 25 to 40 years old, all are welcome to apply. The application for the Young Alumni Academy closed on Aug. 25, 2023. The Academy’s in-person and online cohort model limits the size of the group to 40 individuals to maximize personal attention, community-building, and active engagement. Therefore, each Academy applicant is considered with great care. Applicants are selected based on the breadth and depth of their application. We also factor in your professional career and involvement with the university as a student and as a member of the Husker alumni community. It is suggested that applicants embody the following qualities to ensure a meaningful experience for Academy participants:

Thursday, Oct. 5 – Orientation + Understanding Alumni Impact Connect and network with other admitted Academy members. Learn from Executive Director Shelley Zaborowski about the Nebraska Alumni Association’s mission and how the association engages with alumni worldwide. Thursday, Nov. 2 – Chat with the Chancellor Have a personal conversation with Dr. Rodney Bennett, the 21st chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Learn about the fantastic momentum of your university, as well as the challenges and opportunities that face the campus now and in the future. Thursday, Dec. 14 – Exploring Your Personal Talent Learn about the Clifton Strengths Institute and how to leverage your Top 5 CliftonStrengths at home and in the workplace while engaging in fun and interactive group discussions. Thursday, Jan. 4 – Husker Athletics Engage in an interactive Q&A with Dr. Lawrence Chatters, Executive Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Initiatives, about how the Big Ten Conference expansion and Name, Image, and Likeness are impacting Husker Athletics. Thursday, Feb. 1 – Your Impact Through Philanthropy Discover how you can get involved with and advocate for the university and learn more about the impact of philanthropy and the mission of the University of Nebraska Foundation. Thursday, Mar. 7 – Dynamics of Effective & Inclusive Leadership Learn from Dr. Helen Fagan and Dr. L.J. McElravy about approaches you can implement to broaden your emotional intelligence for managing diversity and organizational best practices. Discover ways you can approach problem-solving from a creative and innovative mindset. Thursday, April 11 – Dine with the Deans Attend an exclusive ceremony where you can have dinner with a college dean of your choice. Hear a university update from Executive Vice Chancellor Katherine Ankerson. Celebrate the conclusion of your Academy experience with fellow alumni in the in-person and online experience.
