Headed up by UNL alum, Husker football great and seasoned esports coach Ahman Green, the proposed program offers an opportunity for students to engage in a shared passion for gaming in a centralized location on campus.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is launching an interdisciplinary esports program that will offer scholarships, an esports arena and an undergraduate certificate program to enable students to learn and compete in a rapidly growing field. The College of Journalism and Mass Communications is spearheading the efforts.

Nebraska’s CoJMC assistant professor of advertising and public relations Ciera Kirkpatrick was named a 2023 Emerging Scholar and awarded a $3,500 grant by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

During the spring 2022 semester, a class of CoJMC students examined past coverage by the Omaha World-Herald to determine if the coverage was true, fair and accurate.

Jill Martin was named the January Professor of the Month by the CoJMC Student Advisory Board. Martin is an assistant professor of practice in journalism. She teaches journalism and community reporting courses, leads the Nebraska News Service and serves as co-director of the Experience Lab.

Meet Odelia Amenyah, an advertising and public relations and journalism double major from Omaha. Through Heartland Pulse, she’s getting hands-on experience in the industry while telling stories of people in the state.
|
|
|
|
|
|

Two CoJMC students will serve as orientation leaders for summer 2023. In these roles, which are among the most competitive and prestigious student leadership positions at the university, the students will help welcome more than 4,500 students and their family members.

326 CoJMC undergraduate students earned a place on the fall 2022 semester Dean’s List. For students to make the Dean’s List, they must have completed 12 or more credit hours (pass/no pass courses do not qualify) with at least a 3.7 semester GPA.

Jacht Agency is excited to announce its student crew for spring. This semester, there are 52 “Jachters,” who represent returning and new students from different backgrounds and majors at UNL.

The UNL CoJMC Student Advisory Board voted to select Jessica Black as the December 2022 Student of the Month. Black is a junior advertising and public relations major from Lincoln.

New to UNL this year, Academic Navigators are available in each college to help students stay on track and find the resources they need to be successful at NU. They help students feel successful, safe and healthy on campus, aid in school struggles, set career goals and get involved.

Join us on March 9, at 4 p.m. in the Pepsi Unlimited Sports Lab, located in Andersen Hall on UNL’s city campus. You'll get an inside look at the lab, meet our all-star students and faculty and learn about the game-changing programs and courses we offer. As a bonus, you’ll hear from two-time national champion and retired NFL football player Ahman Green on how he plans to help the college grow the esports team at UNL.

Brett W. Dettmer, 27 of Syracuse, passed away at the Memorial Hospital in Guymon, OK on December 5, 2022. He was born on July 24, 1995, at the Syracuse Community Memorial Hospital to Bill & Dawn (Clark) Dettmer.
